One of the hidden features of the Nokia N97 and other S60 devices, that most of you have never heard of, simply because they have not played around with the settings enough, is the ability to lock your phone remotely without having any third party software installed on your smartphone. Here is a simple tutorial that will show you how to lock your smartphone from anywhere in the world just by sending a SMS message.

Now, take your phone and go to Settings - Phone - Phone mgmt. - Security settings - Phone and SIM card. Once you are there you will see a "Remote phone locking" option that will probably be disabled. Select it and set it to "Enabled". You will be asked to enter a "Remote locking message" - this is the text of the SMS message you will send to your phone in order to lock it. Write something that you will remember. I set it to "lockmyphone". After that you will be prompted to verify the locking message text. So type in your secret keyword again. You will be prompted to enter your current lock code, which by default is 12345 for all Nokia S60 smartphones. Enter the code and click OK.
Now on the same page there is another option "Lock code" that enables you to change the lock code for your Nokia N97 smartphone. Change it to something different from 12345 but remember this code. Now lets test if this thing works. Take another phone and send your phone a SMS message with your remote locking message. Upon receiving the SMS message your phone will be locked and if someone likes to use it, they will have to enter the lock code. Also after the phone is locked you will receive a SMS on the other phone "Phone locked" stating that your smartphone is locked.
